Introduction

FrontPage is a Microsoft program that lets you create webpages with minimal specialist knowledge. It allows you to set up professional websites using FrontPage's interface which is similar to that of a word processor or desktop publishing program.

We provide a FrontPage server for hosting Frontpage websites, allowing customers to get the most out of FrontPage.

Do you support ASP?
The FrontPage service does not support Active Server Pages. Web programming and database access is available though our Unix/Linux based CGI and MySQL services.

Can I use the FrontPage service with my hosted domain?
The FrontPage service does not support domains. There is a way around this restriction - Using a hosted domain with your FrontPage site

Can I use the FrontPage service PlusNet Webstats?
The FrontPage service does not work with the PlusNet webstats, although it is possible to use a FrontPage specific webstats solution.

Who can use the FrontPage service?
FrontPage services are provided on all subscription based products, except PlusNet Lite and Broadband Plus.

The FrontPage service must be activated before it can be used.

When your website has been uploaded, you will be able to view your results at fp.username.plus.com.

Please note: it is not possible to upload your files to the FrontPage server using an FTP client - you can only use FrontPage itself.

Using a hosted domain with your FrontPage site

If you need to use a hosted domain with your FrontPage site, you can do this by putting a redirect file onto your FTP webspace. Visitors to your domain will then be instantly redirected to your FrontPage site. This is how you do it:

What do you need?

Text editor - MS Notepad will do.
FTP client - you can use MS Internet Explorer but a client like cuteFTP is best. Download CuteFTP
Hosted domain - must be hosted on your account.

  1. Open this Index file in your text editor.
  2. Change the following code in the index file (see diagram below)
    a) YOUR SITE TITLE HERE - this should be changed to whatever you call your website.
    b) and c) YOUR SITE ADDRESS HERE - this should be the FrontPage or CGI address for your site.
    FrontPage Address -http://fp.username.plus.com.
    CGI Address http://ccgi.username.plus.com.

    Index changes

  3. Rename the index file as index.html and save it.
  4. Open this anchor.html file in your text editor.
  5. Save the anchor file, renaming it as anchor.html
  6. Test the redirect is working by putting your domain address into a browser. You should immediately see your FrontPage site.

If this technique doesn't work for you, it is possible to use FrontPage to create your site, then upload the files manually to the web servers, so long as you don't need to use any FrontPage Extensions.
